✎ Before digging, landscaping, or starting construction, it’s critical to know where your water and sewer lines are located. Striking an underground utility can cause costly damage, service interruptions, and safety hazards.

✎ Public Utility Lines (Free Service)

✎ Most public water and sewer lines can be located at no cost through your local utility-marking service.

✎ Call 811 Before You Dig

✎ Dial 811 or submit a request online
✎ Utility companies will mark public underground lines with paint or flags
✎ Marks typically include water, sewer, gas, electric, and communications
✎ Requests should be made at least 48–72 hours before digging

✎ ⚠️ Important: 811 typically marks lines up to the meter or main only.

✎ Private Water and Sewer Lines

✎ Lines running from the meter to your building are considered private and are not marked by 811.

✎ These may include:

✎ Water service lines
✎ Sewer laterals
✎ Irrigation lines
✎ Septic connections

✎ To locate private lines, you may need a professional utility locating service using ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electronic locators, or video inspections.
